2024 Wrapped on Loc’d 4 Leisure

This is it.

We have officially made it to the end of 2024, can you believe it?

2024 was long yet short, easy yet hard, motivating yet challenging.

It was everything I needed to experience to blossom into who I am today, in this exact moment.

Join me as I take you down memory lane to reflect on some of the incredible things I was fortunate enough to accomplish, alongside celebrating the amazing individuals in the loc community who inspired me—and many others.

This, is Loc’d 4 Leisure’s 2024 wrapped.

First EVER Photoshoot | Year Three Shoot

Although this shoot was taken back in 2023 (which I just realized as I’m writing this LOL), it has single-handedly changed the trajectory of my entrepreneurship journey.

My goal was to step outside the box, give locs an avant garde-esque and show others that locs are more versatile than one may think. As I creative directed this shoot, overseeing both hair and makeup, it made me realize my talent goes deeper than just hair.

From there with the talented photographer, @mindaniellegomez on Instagram, we have created timeless art throughout the year.

This is only the beginning, and I am so excited to see what 2025 brings us.

No More Writers Block

Since a kid, writing has always been something I turned to when things got overwhelming.

In 2021, I decided to start up my blog to help others who were in the same boat as me as a newbie in the loc community. I started out treating it as a hobby, simply writing whatever came to me and connecting with those it resonated with, never imagining what it could eventually become.

Fast forward to 2024, I made it a goal to get back into writing consistently and on a random day, “Clean Parts Are Overrated” came to me while doing hair on a client.

It felt almost euphoric writing that piece, and from there I knew writing was calling me back home. And I am so happy to be here.

Loc’d 4 Leisure Won Best Pitch & Business Grant

November 25, 2024 Pitch Day

This accomplishment was a testament of being on the right path.

On August 3oth I was accepted into the SURE Program at the University of Houston. This free program helps aspiring and existing business owners in the Houston area develop much needed business skills to become a successful company.

Throughout this 13- week program I was able to work alongside a business consultant who specialized in my industry (shoutout to Guadalupe), completing rigorous assignments like completing a 35 page business plan, business accounting, learning industry competition, and much more.

SURE Program Holiday Party

I met so many amazing individuals and made great relationships along the way.

At the end of this program we had the option to pitch in front of investors for money or mentorship. I chose mentorship, not realizing my pitch will end up being voted best pitch and win a $1000 grant!!! NOTHING BUT GOD!!!

I am forever grateful for the opportunity the SURE Program has given me and I will cherish the knowledge I gained forever.

If you are interested in the SURE Program, do yourself a favor and sign up for Application day on January 11, 2025!

Enough of tooting my own horn, let’s dive into some of these amazing ladies that has inspired me this year!

Geordancè Blanchard | @Geordannce_

Geordancè Blanchard, or “Thee Queen Of Locs”, is a Houston based loctician specializing in loc extensions, instant locs, loc styles, and more.

I was first introduced to Geordancè in 2023 at the “Loc Meetup“, a Houston loc hair show, and from there I knew she was special. Since following her she has received many accolades including winning 1st place at the same hair show the following year!

Geordancè is dominating the loc industry with her undeniable talent with each client she graces. So much so, she is now offering her course “Queen Styles Academy Crochet Course” to help newcomers in the loc industry learn her expertise. It’s so refreshing to see a fellow loctician dominating the game in their own way and being open to sharing their knowledge with others!

Mikey Ewing | @Mikieewing

If you haven’t scrolled on Pinterest and came across this queen then you’ve been living under a rock!!

Mikey Ewing is an influencer based in Houston, making content surrounding all things locs, makeup, health, and the word of God. She’s also the owner of Crochet by Mikiee, making the coolest crochet pieces you’ve ever seen!

Mikey was definitely on my Pinterest board before starting my locs, and since then, I’ve had the privilege of following both her loc journey and her path as she navigates life while spreading the word of God.

Delra Simone | @Delrasimone

This beautiful queen has stopped me in my tracks multiple times while scrolling on Instagram and TikTok. I mean can you blame me?!

Delra is an influencer from the Midwest making content surrounding all things beauty, lifestyle, and locs. She curates videos showing us her trendy loc styles, fashion inspo, and much more.

What drew me towards Delra was not only her beauty, but the size of her locs. She has 46 locs and they are a dream!! She is almost 4 years loc’d and I’m excited to see the growth next year!

Simone Estelle | @Thesimoneestelle

Simone Estelle is a force to be reckoned with. She is the founder of The Loc Meet Up and her new podcast, The Bantu Room where she speaks on controversial topics surrounding black women and our hair.

Simone has laid the foundation by providing the loc community with a platform to showcase our talents, consistently highlighting the beauty of locs in all their shapes, lengths, and forms for the world to see.

For me,

this year was all about community. All of the accomplishments, connections, and collaborations could not have been done without community.

I’ll be honest and say it took me a while to truly grasp this concept though. As much as I love my solitude, I now understand community is what makes the world go round— what makes life just a little bit easier.

For this upcoming new year, I pray I continue to connect with likeminded individuals. Building a community of people I can truly resonate with, confide in, and share enjoyable moments with.

Thank you to everyone who have read, shared, or even skimmed on my blog. Loc’d 4 Leisure is bigger than me at this point—this is 4 me, 4 you, 4 us.

And always remember, indulge in the leisure they give.
