9 Reasons To Be Thankful For Your Locs

We are in the season of gratitude.

Being grateful for the things around us, big or small, can cause a huge impact on our overall perspective on life.

For instance, starting my loc journey has brought so many great things into my life—I have no choice but to be grateful for them.

In today’s blog post I’m going to give you 9 reasons to be thankful for your locs.

After reading this post, you will leave with a new understanding on your own unique loc journey. Finding new ways to fall more in love with them everyday.

Community

Starting this list off with community was no coincidence. When I first started my locs, there was never a feeling of loneliness.

From Youtube, to Instagram, to Google, I always had someone from the loc community willing to help throughout each stage of my journey.

The help I received helped me avoid mistakes, try new styles, new products, new methods, and more.

The loc community is something like a security blanket. You’re able to confide in and relate to individuals in the same boat as you.

I’m forever grateful for the community I’ve built and was welcomed into.

Convenience

The concept of being able to get up and go is truly our reality as loc wearers.

Locs are by far the most convenient natural hairstyle you can rock. Although maintenance can be tedious at times, it can hold you over for weeks, even months at a time.

There’s no more worrying about how your hair is going to turn out the next morning because it’s already done!

Everyone loves convenience, and the fact that locs are the epitome of that is the icing on the cake.

Hair Health

Being that we don’t have to manipulate our hair as much when it comes to our locs, it allows our hair to grow healthier and longer naturally.

People have seen their hair grow to lengths they’ve never seen before, and have health they’ve never had, simply because of how low tension locs are.

Confidence

Being a loctician and dealing with clients on a daily basis, I’m able to witness first hand the new and improved confidence that oozes from my clients.

Whether they just started their loc journey or they’re on their 3rd year, the confidence that their locs bring is a beautiful sight to see.

And it’s not just the hairstyle itself but the courage to even step into unfamiliar grounds is powerful. There’s a certain type of confidence you have to build to even embark on this journey and stick through it.

Weather-Proof

This..this right here, is the one. Because one thing about that humidity and rain, especially in my home town of Houston, Tx, it will ruin your natural hair in a millisecond.

But with locs we no longer have to deal with that, unless of course you just got a fresh retwist (free game, always keep a shower cap on you).

Being able to walk in the rain proudly because you know the water is doing your locs good anyways is a beautiful feeling.

Creativity

The creativity that one has to find when it comes to loc styles is of a special kind.

You truly have to have an eye to create new and unique styles when it comes to locs. And that’s a beautiful energy to practice.

Locs will make you think outside the box, which is great to keep your mind going with fresh ideas.

Creativity is what makes the world go round. It allows you to not lose that child-like wonder and to keep exploring.

Cultural Significance

Locs have deep cultural roots, particularly within African, Caribbean, and Rastafarian communities, and are often seen as a symbol of identity, pride, and heritage.

Locs are a powerful message of self expression, unity, and freedom. Being apart of this community is a privilege and should be worn with pride.

Patience and Discipline

I’m sure everyone can agree that their locs have taught them these 2 things. This journey is a waiting game, and only the ones with patience and discipline will push through.

Being able to see it through each stage 0f your loc journey requires a strong mind and confidence. Some days you might not feel your best, but remembering the long-term goal is what’s important.

These lessons go beyond your crown. Learning patience and discipline from your loc journey can be used in other aspects of your life that can take you far.

Cost-Effective

Although there are lots of loc products on the market, it doesn’t necessarily mean you need to use them.

Using aloe vera gel, rose water, and a natural oil is great for the overall health of your locs. Everything else is extra.
