Ahh, spooky season. My favorite time of the year.
I genuinely love dressing up and being in another world for one night only.
But if you’re anything like me, you wait until the last minute to come up with a quick cheap halloween costume.
Here we’ll explore some easy DIY halloween costumes for people with locs, so you can turn heads this halloween season without having to compromise your crown.
This post is all about easy halloween costumes for people with locs.
THIS POST IS ABOUT COSTUME IDEAS FOR PEOPLE WITH LOCS
- Medusa

This iconic costume had to be first on the list. It goes perfectly for people with locs.
For my loc style I opted for bantu knots. A super easy style that any one can do. For a visual, here is how you can achieve bantu knots on locs.
After that, grab some fake rubber snakes and spray paint them gold. The bantu knots will help to guide and mold the snakes on how you want them to lay on your head. Once you have the locs and snakes how you want them, you’re free to be as creative with your outfit as you please. Be sure to use gold face and body makeup, with gold accessories to really seal the deal. Check out the behind the scenes on how we brought Medusa to life!
- The Little Mermaid
Shoutout to my girl Halle Bailey for putting us loc girlies on the map with this character! Grab some red or auburn hair paint wax, a purple bralette or swim top, and a green skirt.
- Jelly Fish from Shark Tails
I couldn’t make this list without adding in my favorite characters from my favorite childhood movie. Grab some purple hair paint wax, a purple bonnet or even a clear shower cap, and a purple outfit. Don’t forget to practice your Jamaican accent mon!!
- Libby Folfax from Jimmy Neutron
Jimmy Neutron was an iconic tv show, they kept our black queen right at all times. Start with a loc bob, grab a pink long shirt, and some blue jeans. If your locs aren’t black, you can grab some black hair paint wax if you want to take this costume all the way.
- Canary from Hunter x Hunter
This costume is such a fun idea if you normally don’t wear masculine things in your day to day. Section off your locs in 8-10 sections and rubber band the ends with red rubber bands. You could also thrift a nice suit and you’re now in character.
- Lil Wayne
This costume has been done time and time again, it just never gets old. Good thing about it, whatever length your locs are at, you can be any era of Lil Wayne. Grab some fake tattoos, foil for a grill or a fake/real one, and choose an iconic outfit that resonates with you.
- Fairy

SHE WAS A FAIRY, YAWP YAWP! For my loc style I opted for loc knot curls. For a visual, here’s how you can achieve loc knot curls on your locs.
I added in some blue highlights to really spruce up my look, bought some knee high stockings from Walmart, wore a cute bralette, ruffle skirt, a head piece from Forever 21 I’ve had for forever, and bought some fairy wings.
- Avatar
I love how some characters in Avatar had locs. Grab you some blue and white face/body paint, loc jewelry, a brown bralette, and mini skirt.
- Mother Nature
The essence this costume exudes is meant for locs. Grab some type of greenery for a headpiece, any type of green or brown dress, and gold accessories. Make your locs straight, wavy, or curly. Bonus if your locs are a little fuzzy to add to the effortless beauty.
- Rihanna from Ocean’s 8
If you know me, you know I am obsessed with Rihanna (she’s also my birthday twin). One of her iconic looks was when she had locs for the movie Ocean’s 8. Grab a sexy red dress, give your locs a deep side part, and add a red lip. You could also get some henna or a fake tattoo to mimic her hand tattoo.
- Cinnamon Stick from Apple Jacks
I love silly costumes for Halloween. Grab a loc sock, put on an all brown outfit, and black sandals. You could also carry around the box of cereal, it can double as a purse and a snack LOL.
- T-Bo from iCarly

This costume is so simple yet effective. Grab a loc sock or black bandana, an orange shirt, and a stick to add some bagels on. Try not to nibble on the bagels, they’re props!!
- Loc Dog from Menace To Society
This is such a fun costume. Part your locs in 3 sections; one in the front and 2 in the back. Randomly rubber band them and add random hair accessories. Put on a flannel, a wife beater, and baggy jeans.
- Justice from Poetic Justice
Iconic movie, no need for the extra introduction. Grab a white turban or black hat, and put on your best vintage outfit that closely mimics the character.
- Violet from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
I love loc bobs so I had to add in another costume that’ll incorporate it. Bob your locs, apply purple make up to your nose area, and put on an all blue outfit.
- Felicia from Friday
This costume requires the least amount of effort, which I love. Plait up your locs loosely, grab a collared burgundy shirt, and get your Felicia on chile.
- Snoop Dogg
Another iconic celebrity costume that is easy to mimic. Give yourself 2 pigtails, plait them, and add in some bobo’s. Grab a flannel, khaki pants, sunglasses, and your fav converse. Bonus if you give yourself a fake mustache!
There are still so many other Halloween costumes for people with locs out there. Discover what closely fits you and have fun this spooky season!
