When starting your locs, it’s a whole guessing game. You don’t know how thick they will turnout, if you’re going to still like the parting pattern you started with, etc.
When I started my locs, I thought I knew exactly how they will turnout but I was terribly mistaken. I just wasn’t feeling the thickness of them, they were a bit too thin for my liking.
Everyday I would twist certain locs together to see how I would like them at that thickness and research loc combining videos along with people who’s locs were at the thickness I admired. Once I came to the conclusion that I indeed did want to combine some and learned how to do it, it was a life changing decision that made my loc journey even more exciting.
Cleaner look
The main locs that I wanted to combine were my front row. I felt they were just poorly parted and didn’t look right overall in my opinion. Once I combined them I instantly felt it was the right decision.
When combining them I used the locs directly behind them, making the part longer instead of wider. Doing that gave it a more cleaner look because once I retwisted them, it’ll make my locs fall beautifully on my face which brings me to my next point..
Frames face better
Combining my locs in the front also framed my face way better! Making the parts go back more gave me the leeway to have my locs go out of my face giving it that very clean look.
I also noticed that longer parts in the front row is a thing in the loc community. It definitely gives it a better look in my opinion and also helps with thinning edges.
Thinning edges/locs
Having your locs/edges begin to thin is very normal but also devastating. To help with that, combining your locs is a great way to go.
I noticed the front row of my locs began to thin along with my edges and I started to panic. I started using all types of oils I could find and while using hair growth oils are a good choice, combining my locs definitely made a difference immediately.
Helps locs matte quicker
They are many ways you can combine locs; interlock, use rubber bands, 2 strand twists, crochet needle, etc. But the most effective and quicker way to combine locs are by using the crochet needle which also helps locs matte quicker.
We all have heard of instant locs but if not, it helps you skip the whole loc journey and become instantly loc’d and the way they achieve that is by using a crochet needle.
When combining locs and using the crochet needle, you are basically matting the 2 locs together, making them combine by matting them up. Doing so will instantly give the look of a matured loc and helps your locs become combine without leaving a trace.
Comment below if you’ve ever combined your locs or if you’ve been contemplating on doing so! I definitely recommended!
